ORA ownership

This isn't exactly new news, but I haven't noticed anything posted so I thought I'd mention it.
As of June 30, 2011 Ocean, Reefs & Aquariums (ORA) and its affiliate Marshall Islands Mariculture Farm (MIMF) are under new ownership.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for sharing.

Were they bought out by a commercial company just buying the name, or are the new owners small enough to care about the things that made them such great breeders?

I guess only time will tell, but I believe they kept the C level folks and the staff in the trenches.

I read the blog. The new owners are unknown, but the President (same one as before) states they plan to keep things as they always were and actually plan to expand to start raising more species.

This might make them even better than before.

The only problem or reason for them to branch out is that they have flooded the market with captive bred clowns and now people only want the designed ones.

No one wants a plain ol perc, they want a Stage 3 Michaelangelo misbar clown.

Personally I like the Hawkeye half misbar clown. ;)

Mis Barring is cool in my book, some people dont like it some do. I dont, i try to stay true as form when it comes to clowns.

My problems is the picasso snowcasso midnight whitespot. These are all fish as a result of selective breeding and a money maker.

They actually hinder conservation because it makes collectors and divers search these fish even more.

HA! Most of the fry were fine with the barring. I only had a few that had the second bar missing. One thing I do notice though is that the clowns are much richer in color/intensity than the ORA clowns I see for sale in the tanks. i dunno why that is - I am pretty sure i fed them the same food growing up - rotifers, brine, otohime, cyclopeeze. Otohime is terrible for bringing the colors out - the stuff made my fry dull in color but less excitable I guess - which is good for growing large batches of fish.

I think the 3 I gave to Adventure Aquarium/ NJAAS were fully barred. I wonder how they are doing in that lab? ::) Too bad they weren't placed in the big njrc tank.
