Painting Room

Next week I plan to paint the room my tank is in. I will open all windows and use a fan for ventilation. Will also cover the tank with a sheet. Is there anything else I should be aware of? I am concerned paint fumes will get in the tank and kill everything or am I being paranoid?

Thanks,
Mark

Turn off your skimmer. Leave the pumps running. Cover with sheet and avoid overspray. You should be fine though. But the skimmer pulling air might introduce toxins in to your tank. Make sure the room is aired out well also before starting it again.

Yeah good advice turning off the skimmer. you should use a anti mold mildew paint like one for baths. Little extra protection from the humidity

As a house painter myself you don't have much to worry about the fumes (with latex) unless you are using oil or alcohol based paint if you have any spackle sanding to do you might want to put a sheet of plastic under the the cloth sheet for a few days that dust gets everywhere and takes sometime to really settle

cover up the sump too even if it's inside the stand. i seem to remember a thread somewhere that a guy forgot to and killed his whole tank. Not from paint though but a bug bomb... Water based latex shouldnt be bad on smell though as Codfather said.

I would be more concerned with spackle dust if any!!!.. i have been to homes days even a week later and the stuff is still settling

mark, latex is very low voc. might have an oder but no dangerous fumes, i painted the room with my tank in it, and nothing happened

As stated earlier alcohol based paints are very dangerous. My father lost a whole tank of fish using KILZ in the room adjacent to the tank. VENTILATION is the key in my book.
