Palys dying ??

I have a frag with Tubs Blue, Devil's Armor and Pacmans . The devils armor seem to be shrinking up badly. they used to be big a full. The blues and the pacmans that are right next them on the same reef disk seem to be fine. All other palys in the tank are fine. There is no physical evidence on them to suggest whats wrong.

What could be causing them to shrink up, this happened overnight.

Mmmm I dont think so. They weren't to close. That stuff actually clumps up once it in the water. It only seems to be that one type, none of the others right next to them are shrinking up.

I've had that happen many times . All colonies are fine and one right near them just seems to melt/fade/shrink away . I had a small colony on a shell in the tank for over a year and spreading fine . I had no new additions that I can think of and that colony, which has been surrounded by others just shrank and melted away . All others in the tank, and even frags of that same colony are still fine .
You can try to move them to a different flow/light area but sometimes theres nothing much you can do . Good Luck .

I had the same thing happen to me... with no explanation at all, but after reading in different forums it seems that this happens often with zoas/palys.

I ALSO HAVE HAD THE MYSTERY SHRINKING ZOO SYNDROME, IT SUCKS, AND IT NEVER SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO THE CHEAP COMMON ONES, AND WHEN IT HAS HAPPENED (TWICE) I WOULD TRY MOVING THEM TO DIFFERENT LIGHT, DIFFERENT FLOWS.... ONCE IT STARTS I THINK THEY'RE JUST GONNERS... ???

Here's what I do for zoa fungus on colonies that I can REMOVE from the tank: I do a small water change and save the water I remove. I pour hydrogen peroxide straight out of the bottle all over the colony for about 20 seconds including the apparently uninfected areas. Then I dip the colony in the water removed during the water change and shake it well to rinse it. I leave the zoas in the water for about a minute then I put it back in the tank. Some of them open up the next day but most are opened by the third day.

I've done this on maybe ten pieces ranging from a few polyps up to 100 or more polyps and I've only lost one piece. I probably would have lost them all if I did nothing.

And don't get nervous when you hear the zoas sizzling as your pouring the hydrogen peroxide on them.

also you might try checking for pests at night. thats the best time to catch nudis, for example. If you successfully remove them you will be surprised how quick they open back up. good luck.
