Paul’s 240 Gallon upgrade!

Well, sorry for the silence. Had a bit of a flood in the basement and since had decided to clean the danged thing. I was filling one of my water storage tanks and a tube got caught on top of the float valve which caused it to stay open. I did find out my fish room was water tight lol and I now have a squeaky clean basement floor. Thank god it’s not finished. Anyway, lesson learned and modifications were made.

I did start on the apex panel.

Update 2 11/29/18

Well, here’s where I’m leaving it for the night.
IMG_1032.jpg

Have to do the wiring in the back for the non essential EB832 but I’ve run into a problem with the thing stuck in boot loader mode. I can get it to work but it basically mirrors the other EB832. I contact Neptune and waiting on a response.

Tank should be up and running tomorrow or Saturday. Board will be ready tomorrow and I’ll get the probes and all pumps wired up.

Home stretch now.

Update 11/30/18

Well, Neptune customer service did a nice job today. Took about 10 minutes to figure out my EB832 issue and all was right with the world.

Control board is coming together. Wiring is all done minus the water mixing station. Going to draw up what it is I want to accomplish and move on with it tomorrow morning.

Here’s what we have done.

Here’s the essential equipment EB

And the non essential EB

Back of the control board

Basically finished. Two more plugs that need wiring.

Tomorrow, the tank should be full and I think I can get the sump online. Which means I’ll get it cycling, although... I can’t imagine the tank hasn’t been cycling in the 10 days it took to fill it up.

Agenda for tomorrow is get the last two outlets wired, run the probes, hang the control board panel and get sump online.

Update: 12/4/18

Okay, here’s the first water test.
IMG_1096.jpg

I was secretly hoping the tank had began a cycle in the 2 weeks it took to fill. I suppose it was too cold. None the less, we can see it has not.

My approach to this is to add as many strains as I can in order to promote competition and diversity. I’ll be using Dr. Tim’s One and Only, ATM’s Colony and Prodibio StartUp.
IMG_1095.jpg

At noon, I added the bottled bacteria and 45 minutes later, the 15ml of ammonia per Dr. Tims bottle.

The aftermath, the prodibio stuff is pretty cool if you’re a nerd like me.
IMG_1099.jpg

I’ll retest in a few hours to check ammonia.
