Paul's 60 Cube Reef

Here is my next attempt at a reef tank. It is a deep blue rimless 60 cube. I will be running 1 AI SOL Blue, SWC 120 skimmer, MP10wes and a custom sump. I am starting out with Dry Rock from BRS. I already painted two of the sides with black latex paint. Here are current pictures while I wait for the sump. The first sump was damaged in shipping. I am going to attempts a mixed reef. I haven't really thought to much about live stock yet.

Welcome back Paul. Dance Looking good.

Get some water, a heater and the MP in there to get that rock curing. Don't need the sump for that.

We have a garbage can in the garage if you want it, we used it to cure rocks in so that has been its purpose. Before that it was a water change barrel so it is good to go.

Well I finally got my tank started about a week ago. I used the quick cycle stuff and it is ready for fish. Here are some updated photos. I picked up a tail spot Benny today and he is doing well.

Nice grab from there. Are you still in the brick area. The few times I've been to that Petco I've been pretty impressed

Yeah, my new house is in Brick. This guy has been there for about a month. Very healthy fish an only $150. The guy there is ordering me a pair of SA Onyx clowns. Very reasonably priced too. It shows when the employee actually cares about the hobby.

I am not sure on the direction to take the tank as far as corals? I added an additional MP10 so flow is not an issue. Is it better to stay in one coral type or is mixed reef fine as well?

That is entirely up to you, and what you like.

With the MP10, and that light, Zoas and acans should do fine on the bottom, LPS like chalices in the lower light areas (partial shadow worked best for us), and SPS should do well just about anywhere. The only thing you really need to be careful about is acclimating the corals to the lights.

We did have some trouble with the acans looking orange under the AI fixture, but they were growing.
