So as some of you might know ive recently been going threw some tough times financially and because of that have been looking for part time work to make a little extra cash in my area there aren't many near by options for salt water fish aside from major league pets in Jackson and Petco in howell. Not including trop and acc cause the distance is close but not convenient.
My frequent stop for any quick needs and the occasional gem find is petco, now I know most people would steer clear of petco cause realistically they are not well equipped for salt water stock and what they do have usually isn't in the best health or in the proper tanks and the staff only has limited knowledge not to mention the lack of a return policy, How ever my experience with the staff of this petco hasn't been all that bad infact there are about 2 regular staff members there I have come to know on a first name basis and because of this was asked if id be interested in a part time job in the salt water department as they could use the help greatly. I put in a application and if I do decide to take the position want to make it my goal to turn the department around in hopes to bring more interest to the hobby and bring in better stock that's better taken care of to give more options to those who don't have LFS near by.
I wanted to mention a few things I learned about Petcos salt water department there stock comes from a company called Fish Co it usually arrives mid day on Thursdays and that is the best day to find the rare gems before they are picked off by others or succumb to the stress of petco tanks, also petco employees are not aloud to medicate any of the livestock when they show signs of illness as per policy even simple measures like salt treatments or slim coat can not be added. with all this in mind I don't blame the employees a few of them keep salt water tanks and 2 specifically that I spoke with today keeps reef tanks and were very knowledgeable, I told them about NJ reef club and how great you all are and atleast one responded with great interest so I hope to see them on here real soon
