Did you guys see that PETCO will be buying Fosters and Smith? I wonder how it will affect Divers Den or maybe PETCO will now have better quality.

My guess is everything remains the same. Petco mail order is supposed to be very good. And I don't believe I've ever ran across a bad review.

PETCO must have given them an offer they couldn't refuse. Dr. F&S / Live Aquaria were doing just fine on their own.

In the articles I have seen DFS actually put themselves up for sale. I'll see if I can find the article.

That is what makes me worried, they were getting old and wanted to sell. Petco might just be buying the customer list basically and don't care about the live aquria piece. They are also building a new place in San Diego and I am am sure they don't want to be up in Wisconsin, so who know if Kevin Kohen will move or if he will leave. They both get fish from Quality Marine (for the main ordering part) so it will be interesting to see if they want it to be redundant. I am hoping they leave it alone, but considering how the sale went, I am not optimistic at this point.

I'm sure many of you have seen the talk on RC. I'm in the camp that thinks it's a bad thing. The big pet places like petco and petsmart sing a good song but their track record on animal treatment has often been questioned in the past. Even if the quality remains the same, the guarantees stick etc, Il have a hard time shopping there because they are now part of the petco machine. To me it's the same reason I chose not to shop at other big name retailers because of their track record on employee treatment etc. These large companies answer to the share holder and although you might have a few caring employees that want to do the right thing corporate policies often don't empower them to do so. The other thing I'll say is that while Kevin kohen is known to run a great operation for dis, I think you have to take his words from those RC posts with a grain of salt because he's now making comments about his future employer.

Putting on my business cap, I want to believe that Petco purchased Dr F & S for their online business expertise. Hopefully they will be hands off, utilizing their distribution to bring down shipping costs for Dr F & S. The Dr. F & S is too strong to let it go. Just wait and see.

This was my thought also, learning and utilizing each other's technologies and process to improve the brand.
