Before you do anything I would have your water tested by a local reefer or LFS. Could be a bad test kit in the first place. Also whats your SG? I'd be more inclined to think with the heat and evaporation while you were away that could have caused your issue in the first place.

Justin, if you want I could stop by and check your numbers using a Red Sea test kit.....OR you could bring a small volume of water to me.

Thanks for the offer Paul, I think im going to just order a red sea kit. I need one anyway I need to stop using these API ones.

I ended up getting the red sea kit today, alk - 8.4dkh mag -1360 and calc-480. Seems like everything is where it should be. My torch hasn't improved. Not sure what to do with it.

You have to give it some time and keep the levels steady. That will help the torch improve, it did with ours when our alk had a bit of a swing.

Came home today, all my lps was pretty much receded and looked horrible. My red cap was completely bleached. Only thing that looks unaffected are my zoas and xenia. I have no idea what's going on, Im about to test my water right now. This is so frustrating and making me want to just take the tank down.

Have you changed anything lately salt types anything like that maybe its something stupid where is your nitrates at I know LPS can deal with high nitrates but maybe it's to high did you test for that maybe something died in your tank all your live stock ok how old is your tank just spit balling some stuff

haven't changed salts. Tank was rebuilt +/- 3 months ago. Nothings really changed or died.

And the great day continues... Went to go check my levels and my test kits I keep in my drawer spilt all over, luckily I kept them in a Ziploc for this exact reason. Probably just going to toss the whole thing. Happy it wasn't my red sea kit I bought yesterday though.

Think i figured out what happened this time around...Well I got one of those cobalt neotherm heaters.. if anyone hasn't seen one they have a LED indicator, it will show the temp of tank and the temp setting you choose, if they are both the same it will keep the LED of that temp solid. Well since I figured it had a internal thermometer you can say I took my thermometer out of the tank. Probably the first poor choice... The tanks temp was probably around 76 degrees when I just checked it, and with my AC a room fan on in the house at night god knows how low it probably dropped. Im figuring this is what did it in for the corals. My zoas and xenia seem fine now, just threw in the heater I was using before I got the cobalt. Really upset because I heard only good things about this heater. I ordered it from foster+smith so im hoping this one is just defective so they are sending me another but this time ill keep a close eye on it.

it doesnt look bad to me (im fairly new to this too) but when my water was messed up my torches retracted to only a little bit less than 1/4" sticking out of its shell(for lack of a better term)
