PH dropping overnight

Now that I have a PH probe I notice that the PH rises during the day (and every time the ATO runs and add Kalk water) and then drops overnight, my question is how can I minimize how much the PH drops over night? Right now I see the PH will drop to around 7.9 at night and up to around 8.2 during the day, also the PH will go up around .15 every time the ATO kicks in. Thanks for the feedback.

This is normal. It's also the reason people time dosers to dose at night as the Alk will raise PH. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as your tank is looking good. I've been running Kalk with ATO for a year now. As a general rule, you just don't want the PH to change PH by +/- .20 when you add it (I do break this rule often).

If you have a refugium, turn the lights on the refugium at night, the opposite of your diplay lights. This will help to keep your PH stable over night.

If your tank and corals look fine, don't ever worry about it. One of the problems with PH probes is people try to chase the ideal PH and do more harm than good. They are great to make sure there is not a huge problem, but trying to peg ph to a specific number with many variables at play can make you go nuts.

Get rid of the pH probe....or don't look at it. This is taking the ostrich approach to things, but I feel folks focus too much attention on what otherwise is a normal pH swing, especially during the winter. As already said, this isn't bad...and 7.9 is just fine. You can try what Mike suggests, in running your sump/refugium lights at night...this will slightly help, but again, still not a big thing.

I wouldn't worry to much about ph swings over the 24 he period as long as they are consistent. I have a probe set on my apex but its more there to let me know if my doser were to screw up and dump to much alk into the system.
