Phosphate removal

My phosphates continue to bounce anywhere between.07-.13. My tank looks great when they are around .07. I currently use 250 grams of rowaphos in the baffles of my sump and change it out monthly. I also do 20% water changes every two weeks to try and keep them in check. I only feed my tank once a day and have 9 fish in my 75 gallon tank.

I’m thinking about adding a phosban reactor to my tank and use some GFO in it. I’ve never done this before and was wondering what other people think of them.

Any thoughts or comments are greatly appericiated.

One more note…. When I make my salt water the cleanest that I can get my water is .02. I’ve played with my rodi set up quite a bit, tested many salt water batches and this current make up is the best that I can produce.

IMHO, your po4 range is pretty acceptable, unless you’re trying for a low nutrient tank. If your po4 is consistently in that range I wouldn’t worry about it. are you seeing any negative effects when you’re in hitting .13?

rowaphos is gfo so you can treat it like rowaphos. if you are planning to use a reactor, make sure it has a slow tumble in the reactor. it should look a slow simmer. enough to consistently turn over the gfo but not fast that it would grind it down.

My zoas, Duncan colony and my octospawn dont like it when my phosphates hit this level. I’m looking at BRS phosban reactor with a small pump that is included. I like the products from BRS and they usually work well.
