Phytoplankton Culturing

Are you planning rotifers or brine?
If not, you dont need the sieve.
Phyto is just green water.
You can split the colony, add appropriate salinity fresh salt mix and F2 for food and just keep growing phyto.
Just be sure to try and keep things sanitary. Quickest way to crash the colony.
Once you start getting more than you need. Fill up bottles and place in a fridge.
Have to shake daily to keep from getting die off. But then you are all set to start sharing!

If you do rotifers and clowns you definitely need the sieve!
As you will need lots of phyto for the rotifers to feed on, and for the larvae tank to remain green with rotifers.
I got the sieve for pods

I also noticed the 50 micron socks on ebay and some on amazon wouldn't get here for weeks- i went and bought a 2 pack on amazon for $ 14, and will get it later this week- actually too soon for me- I'm still waiting on the Phyto kit- looking forward to not having to buy any- and maybe pods too- and maybe sharing with members that eat Taylor Ham :D:p
Picked up 2 myself. Will be here Friday. I will have plenty of material for filtering my rotifers. Which must still be alive.
Been almost a week since I started the culture.

Actually just came. Chopped one up and was able to make 3 pieces for filtering use. WOW....So much easier pocess. YES. Have living rotifers! SWEET

NOW just need to order the Rotigreen Oemga and RG Complete to get me prepped for the clown larvare.

Its really interesting that so many people decided to do this almost simultaneously (myself included). It's like the butterfly effect...russia invades ukraine and americans start growing phytoplankton and copepods

In my defense, I had been doing phyto for a year or so, then got into pods after the buy 1 get 1 deal, but my pod culture crashed. So I took a break from phyto.

Then...when my main display was crashing, I decided to get the phyto going again and pick up rotifers to give clown larvae raising a go.

Haven't played the eggs for this cycle yet. So I have a week or so to get both the rotifer colony built up more and more phytoplankton made. But am gonna get Rotigreen omega and RG complete in the meantime.

sorry if you felt the need to be on the defense. I was just commenting that I havent heard about culturing for a while and all of a sudden like 15 people in my various circles decided to start talking about it this week. Was like some sort of mind control that activated a sleeper cell of phytoculturalist.

Just getting going again so just 1ml on day 1.

Anyone up north NJ have some to spare? I will be good after Wednesday, but need some till then to feed my rotifers.
Message me if able. If Interested I could trade rotifers for phytoplankton, or something else. Have plenty to wheel and deal if you have the phyto. Lmk

Does anyone have a 53 micron sieve or sock or anything available? I have copepods that are ready to harvest but my sieve doesn't come until the end of the week.

I picked up a 50 micron nylon mesh filter sock. Will trade for phytoplankton.
