Please help

definitely reduce your bioload, it should help dramatically. I would get rid off all three tangs in my opinion. all three tangs get way too big for a 50 gallon tank. good luck

Does anyone think live rock in the sump fully submerged and a light is a good idea, from what i have heard live rock is supposed to be a filter

if you have enough rock in your tank i wouldnt put it in your sump. just gonna hold in waste. the rock in your tank is the bio filter. put a light over the sump if ya can use it as a refugium, the light is for the plants(macro) you can put in there to burn up the waste. you have to targer feed elegance. . . . use mysid or even something a bit larger

I would stop dosing microvert, it's probably adding to your nitrate problem. But @ 5 ppm it's not that bad, although you should target 0 ppm as you know. The water changes will replenish the same trace elements that the microvert is adding without the nitrates.
Cheato (macro algae) in a lit sump would be more beneficial than adding more rock since you'll be able to harvest some every couple of weeks to export nitrates. If you add rock to the sump I would add it on top of some eggcrate that is elevated off the bottom of the sump about 1/2".
