Polyps over running

Ok guys. Hopefully I can get a picture tonight but I wanted to put this out there. I have a rock that is full of zoas and place the rock near one of my base rocks. On the base rock I put some other zoa in hope to make a nice zoa garden there. I also got some polyps which I put on the base rock as well. Now the polyps have over ran the base rock basically hiding all the zoas that are on there. I don't think the zoas are dead but not sure. The rock that is full of zoas is not opening up as much as they used to. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the polyps or not. My question is should I pull the polyps out? If I do how do it do it without pulling the rock out (its a base rock so I would have to pull other rocks out which I don't want to)

Thanks
