Pondering a nem tank

So I have 5 nems, 2 banished clowns, and a bunch of rock.
Thinking about breaking down the pest tank and making a nem tank.
The nems are in the main display and I'm unsure if they will survive in the water in the 'pest tank', which has not seen a water change in 10 years (yes, thats true, and it thrives).
How would I go about doing this?
The main tank is 30g, the 'pest/nem' tank is 45g (approx).
I'd obviously have to drain and refill the 'pest/nem' tank, but there are fish in there. I can do a temporary bucket tank for a few days if needed.
Having not done this before with nems, and knowing they can be a bit temper-mental, any advice on how to go about this is appreciated.
