Possible changes to monthly meetings

Hey members and guest.

The club has been facing an ever growing problem with meeting attendance especially the ones outside of central jersey. (Extreme north and south ). From what We’ve noticed south of point pleasant is low attendance and so is north of let’s say Rahway.

So we have been mulling over a few causes and solutions.

First the monthly might to frequent. So we were considering making them quarterly.

In addition given the location bias we were thinking of having them in central jersey. Similar to what was done in Jackson last year.

We think ‘‘tis will improve attendance and spare our members / host the financial drain of hosting since the club may handle it /c a year and maybe collect or do a pot luck. In addition we feature vendors at the event. In a rotation.

This is an idea that is being vetted. So please post away.

ALL Personal attacks or disrespectful comments will be immediately deleted. The BOD wants to have a nice open professional dialogue with the community to fix this problem.

Let’s here it all guys.

Edwin, I get where you going but quarterly to me is to infrequent. If that is the case can members post on the site if they feel like having people over their house?
This could alleviate my infrequent comment.
Obviously, will be the members responsibility to cordinate, organize, fund, etc.

That’s why s my concern too. Just starting the brainstorming session.

My ideal take away is to agree to hold them around central jersey so every is equidistant and the travel is on average the same.

The only problem is that we miss out on some beautiful tanks from the host events

Has the possibility of moving the meeting date to Sunday been discussed. I only ask because a few times I have seen people who honor the Sabbath say they would like to go but simply can’t on a Saturday

That’s a risky play as well. Cause then your cutting into Sunday church goers as welll its a tough situation.

I think the summer is always tough since most peoples weekends are already booked. I wanted to go a few times, but first I was injured and out for 3 mos, then the other time wife already had plans. hopefully now that weather is becoming colder, it will be easier to meet. I vote every other month as well. I'd love to go this weekend, but the tile guy is coming to prepare the floors for the new big boy :)

X1 on Sunday. I'm not saying every Sunday but definitely more than none. This way club members that cant come on Saturdays due to religion can appreciate a meeting or 2.

I like going every month. If fine with that.

It's very tough for me with my current situation with my gf. If the meetings were way North I could potentially squeeze an hour in. I only get to see her on weekends and she's obviously not into the hobby AS much as I am. Any Saturdays are typically jam packed with stuff to do.

I'm sad I miss them all - but it's just the nature of the game right now. I don't reccomend Sundays especially in winter because of football.

@Hallowhead, drag her along & just tell her it's a cook out with fellow reef geeks. U never know. That's what I told my gf. She went to a meeting, shortly she had her own tank. (Katy's Reef).

+ find something to do afterwards near the area.
Tell her, might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Lol

Hey, you never know.

I am just getting her into reefing - gotta ease her in. She's at the point where she's fascinated and will sit and watch the fish swim and what not but doesn't wanna do any maintenance which is fine - next is to go to LFS and pick stuff out

Maybe try to have some at lfs those usually have good turn outs. I know I go to more meetings in the winter. Usually busy in the summer

I live in central NJ so that would be great.
I haven’t been to a lot of meetings. But I think having the meeting at fish store helps.
We can also have meetings at frag swaps/ aquarium events. This will also take the burden out of hosting a meeting in members homes.

That's key, one big issue is the stress that may come along with meets. We figured that it be best if took some of that burden off the members.

Have meetings at stores also helps the local LFS. Picking stuff from different stores around NJ is a good thing.

I go to meetings. To talk to you all and be social. But to be honest. I’m primarily there to see the tanks, setups and just how others are doing it. If it turns out the we reduce or eliminate meetings. Listen very carefully to your front doors. That noise you hear will be the Sponge knocking to check out your tank. You don’t need to feed me. Heck you don’t need to be there. Just leave a key under the door mat. Hahahaha. Just kidding (sorta). But along that premise. I would be happy to show anybody that wanted to see my setup (why you would want to see a bunch of old tanks cobbled together is beyond me). And I am fairly certain the far majority of the people here would want to show off what they are doing. This IS suppose to be FUN. Perhaps a list that people can put there name on of people who have no problem with people PM-ing them to ask if they could arrange a visit. I don’t know. What do you all think.
