possible ick

I think my perc may have ick, however it is very possible that it is only damage to the fin caused by my pseudochromis. It looks like it could be spots but i am not sure. None of my other fish are showing symptoms of ick. The only place the perc has these spots or fin blemishes are on the outer fins, nothing on the body. He doesnt even scratch on the rock so I am not really sure. Is it possible for it to be ick with absolutly no scratching? He is still eating and breathing normal and is very active. I have 3 chromis that have been in quarantine for 5 weeks and dont want to add them to my tank until I figure this one out? Any ideas from anyone?

Add garlic to his food to boost his immune system. Keep a close watch for a couple of days. I assume he's in a reef environmet?

You can also try soaking the food in Selcon as well. My PBT had ick a month or so ago, It wasn't scratching either. I soaked the food in Selcon for about a week and it went away. None of the other fish in the tank were showing any signs of ick. But there was no questions that the tang had it.

in my case, sometime the white spots comes and goes within few days... (may be because my leon goby? ;D)  if you don't want to take chances, do these...

(1)
  • I use fresh garlic, chop them in small peices
  • put them on a saran-wrap, then use "right" sizes spoon to crush them, the purpose to use saran-wrap is to kept the juice (you can also get garlic juice from supermarket, just make sure it did not contain any other stuffs in it - like spicy-seasoning...etc.)
  • add flake food in, let them soak for about 5 mins mintues
  • feed them to your fishes (not you), including the garlic bits...

(2)
  • get leon goby instead of cleaner wrass, cause i heard that once the cleaner wrass finish up their duties, they will starve to death, they only eat live stuff...   :(

note:
about a little more than a year back, that every fishes in my tank have itch, i used both methods for about a month, then it all back to normal...
  • just be aware, that, as i heard, the garlic method may not always works (i was just lucky i guess...)
  • since then, i always keep few leon-goby in my tank, i still have 2 left since, and added one more 6 months back - just in case...  ;D cause Leon Boby is hard to get, and they are expensive, a little tinny one cost 20 buck!

good luck...

I agree with blange3 I used garlic extreme when my hippo started getting some white spots and after a couple of days it was gone.

sorry, you are right - Neon Goby.  (don't really need to be Gold... may be more expensive...?)
thx

BTW:
my tank is 220-gal, and the new one always chasing one of the existing one... (so, you may really want to just get one or a mated pair...)
