I guess I am a reefer now, tank crash. Everything has been moved to my parents house. Minimal fish loss we will see with the corals. Big thanks to gregw and mikem for their help and offers we will see how things go. Everyone should buy a generator

there are a few different companies in new jersey who install generators that run on natural gas. ive seen these installed and they are great. you can get units small to run a few things and if you have 5 grand laying around you can get a unit to run your whole house. but im thinking one running a few things including your tank is more that enough.

Just checking them out a 8KW natural gas generator starts just below 2K.. ($1989) Generac is the name brand HomeDepot and Lowes. Was told that this model would be enough with a gas furnace, tanks 2, and 1500 SQ ft house. That does not include installation or yearly maintance. Generac is a US based company ..Wisconson.. good reviews. Maybe we can do a club group buy? ;D A 14KW unit is going to be mid 3000. That is the size Rbu has I think.
Sure if you have electric heating or hot water you would need a bigger one.

Group buy on generators sounds great. Delivered to your house? Better clear out you living room.

After reading this I went and bought a a cheap generator from harbour freight. Only 119 for 1000 W thats enough to run one pump and the heater until things get back to normal. Even If I only get to use it once It will be well worth it as insurance!

How long were you out? My power went out for 5 hours last night. I kept the wood stove cranking and circulated the water a couple times via a large measuring cup. Power co told me to brace for 2 days, thank goodness That didn't happen!

Sorry to hear. Hope all is ok, good luck

I have a 16kw unit..

For the record.....I work for PSE&G and they have had us working 16 hours straight for the past 3 days. I can understand why people are out of power. The weight of the snow has caused several branches to come down taking the wires in there path.....
Hopefully everyone that is out of power will have it on soon...

All of you getting those generators. If you decide to hook it up to your house wiring PLEASE remember to open you main breaker. If you don't there is a chance you can backfeed onto the utilities system causing some real safety issues for the workers working on the power lines.....
