stupid power outage today and now my gigantic yellow fiji leather is pissed. so much for looking at perfect this weekend ;D now i am going to have to weait 3 days!
I know how you feel. My pico certainly suffered some ill effects when we lost power at the house last week for four hours. Brr.... boy was it a shock to see the temp down to 66-68!
Still, I always keep in mind, it could be worse. I, for one, certainly don't relish the thought of running to cut off sump returns in about a fish room. Because, no matter how hard you drill for the worst, you always end up forgetting at least one sump return and having a flood. (*this one time, both my manager and I forgot the sump return on- of all tanks- the live rock curing tank, right after a new batch of live rock came in. Bleh).
Here's hoping your leather comes back all brand-spanking new looking in a few days!
all equipment pass through the UPS (for power surge protection purpose).
when power outage, only these devices will be operating with the UPS's battery:
- a power head
- a heater (inside the display tank)
- small air pump to blow air on the power head
- a fan (for summer time only, which will be blowing across the water surface)
i did not use anything high-end, just a 1500 Amp UPS, am thinking to use a bigger UPS in the future...
atleast the temp staid constant at 79. I think the no flow and no lights caused some type of stress. my 2 yellow fiji leathers are real touchy for some reason. if a hermitt walks across them they usually shut down for a day. Both of them are so big. They are the center peices of my tank.
i have some air pumps that work with batery, they are pretty good when the power go off they come on, is a nice safe, and i have a ups too, and i have just a pump for some gas exchange, i think thats all you need, for 1 or 2 hours power outage
