Pretty bummed but still grateful

So my system is just about a total loss. I was just allowed back to my house last night and the sight of my tank in the state it is in was devastating. However I am truly grateful that my loved ones are safe and my house is still there and livable. I told my girlfriend during the storm that if I came home to a dead tank I was done with the hobby. However, with all the kind words and offers of frags to restart I had changed my mind. I love this hobby and have made many friends through it. Not sure when it will be but I will be back hopefully bigger and better and if not bigger Definitly better. Thanks again everyone.

I'm glad the family is safe too Kevin... but looking at the current tank pic... some of the stuff on the bottom/front looks like it still has some color. I wouldn't write that all off just yet. Do a big water change and get temps back to normal and see if they recover.

Yea some is still hanging on. Did 50% water change on my frag tank and am running a large amount of carbon on it. Hopefully some will pull through. Thank you

My sister works for nj manufacturers homeowners. She was saying that no livestock would be covered. But equipment should be. Not sure about other ins companies.

Sorry to have about this. As I've told other if there is anything I can help with let me know

Will homeowners insurance cover any of this due to the storm?
I don't think that any insurance co would cover livestock unless you had some sort of rider on your policy. Maybe if you had a larger claim - say a tree through the house and it physically damaged the tank then you may be able to claim teh value of the whole package. I'm sure if nothing else, the Ins co would say it's impossible to quantify a value for something that you bought as a frag for $20 2-3 years ago that we all know would be worth $150+. Best case would be to get back the $20 if you could produce a recipt, and even that will be iffy. Just my opinion, for what it's worth

hawkeye i wish you the best with your tank. not sure where you live but if you need some help my brother has a tank up and running in jackson if you need space for some stuff

Glad to hear your home is OK. I've been hearing the horror stories about all the barrier islands.

Best of luck with the recovery. The fact that anything looks alive still in your after picture is promissing.

I've spent a lot of thime through my life in places like Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, LBI and I lived on Brig for several years, it's painful to see images from the shore.

So I broke down my display today. Have my rock in a 100g rubber made stock tank with bleach and water. It's weird seeing the tank empty and all the equipment on the kitchen table. At least the smell is gone...lol. I definitely plan to rebuild I'm just not sure when I'll be able to get I back up and running. I'm kinda (stress the kinda) happy to rebuild. I plan to take the things I didn't like about the old system and improve on them and also try out some new ideas I have been thinking about. I also want to thank everyone who has offered to help not just me but all the others that were affected. Like I said in my original post you're the reason I will rebuild.

Kevin if you need any help at all give me a call 770-1855 I live in Hammonton which will take 30 mins to get to you.

Thanks man I really appreciate that. I think it's mostly done for now. Now it's a decision wether to rebuild the tank I have or get something new.

So I finally brought myself to go through my bucket of things removed from my tank. Man it was tough never realized how attached to this stuff I really was.
