QT Question about multiple fish

I am planning on picking up a powder blue tang and hippo tang from OG II, but was wondering if I could QT them at the same time?

I have a 45 gallon tank I will be using and a simple HOB filter.

I plan on picking up some garlic flakes, maybe some copper treatment, and figuring out what else to use for QT.

I know I need to have it bare bottom, no LR, and some PVC for them to hide. Also I was thinking of running hypo salinity from the start or should I observe the fish for a week and see if Ich or anything is present.

This is my first time QT-ing fish and I'd like to do it right.

In a 45 G you should be fine so long as they are smaller sized IMHO.
I kept 2 tangs and a blenny in a smaller tank then that, not optimal but for QT you make do.
I do hypo from day one slowly dropping the salinity over a week then after 3-4 weeks of no ick I start to raise back up slowly.

I soak all food in selcon or similar product.
BB and PVC is way to go.

Don't have hypo salinity when you add them, you will shock them. As JR said you can start from day one, but when you introduce them you want salinity to be very close (drip acclimation will help this). If you are going the hypo route, I think you can ignore the copper treatment. You don't want to over stress the fish.

Actually if you plan to do hyposalinity you want to drop them right into it not slowly lower the salinity. By slowly lowering the salinity you give the parasites a chance to adjust to it. Parasites can adjust to the lowered salinity just like a fish can. However the parasites can't handle the sudden drop in salinity like a fish can and their cells will rupture.

Now when you raise the salinity you want to do that slowly over a period of a couple weeks.


When you do a FW dip on a fish you don't slowly lower the salinity, you just drop the fish into the FW.
