Question: Does anyone use halides anymore?

Interesting question. I see many Halides for sale very cheap so I would guess not many people use them anymore.

Halides are dead technology. If you are buying lights get leds.
it going to be hard to get bulbs and maintain a hailide fixture.

if you don’t want to spend the money on led you can buy t5.

Halides are not magic. You can grow corals with led with no problems.

You will get the best growth possible with halides. You will get the best color with LED. T5 is kinda a happy medium. The biggest issue with halides is the heat they put off and the electric bill to run them. Lot's of people still do run them but I think as LED technology advances they will become more scarce

The light was used on a 29g tank. I was told it only used for 6 months. Underneath it in the picture is a 3' aluminum reflector- It's actually a 175w How's $40 sound

Steinhart aquarium still uses a few halides and loves them. This is above their massive reef tank and all the little lagoon set ups around it.

I do miss the halide we had over our 30g cube, that tank looked amazing. However, the heat and the electric bill were no good.

I'm around Princeton, I checked and its like an hour. I was trying to think if I had any excuses to take a 2 hr round trip...ha. Can't think of anything.

How much do you reckon with shipping? :)

Thanks again. Wish I had something to trade.

Add $5 to the price and I'll ship it- will have to eliminate or cut the reflector to fit in the box

Ok, deal. Let me measure and I'll let you know how long I would need....

And actually found this while looking for my measuring tape:

So maybe I'm good without the reflector. :)
