Question for the Vodka Dosers out there...

I've been dosing my tank for quite some time now. I have not yet made it to my maintenance dose, but I am now dosing at 15mL a day. Over the past couple months my once gorgeous Ora Green Birdsnest's have been slowly dying. And now my once gorgeous bright green Candy Cane coral has it's tissues receeding. Is this being caused by the dosing?

Its a possibility that it could be the vodka. What are the other param? specially the alk. You could also start dosing Brightwells MB7 and cut down on the vodka.

MB7 = Bacteria
Vodka = food for bacteria

My readings as of last night are:

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 25
PH - 8.3
Alk - 9.0
Mag - 1140
Calcium - 350
Phosphate - .03

I dosed extra Calcium and Magnasium so those numbers are probably higher now since they were last night.

I was trying to stay away from the MB7, but I may add some to add extra bacteria to the tank.

I agree with Rich. 15ml seems like a lot to me but not sure of your tank size. I would think by now your dosage would have stablizied and not increase.

Tanks a 180 with about 30-40 in the sump.

I calculated 145 Net Gallons, which is what I dosed at. I'm at 15mL and I think my Nitrates have started to drop!! They used to be around 50....last night 25!! So I'm planning on staying with 15 until I hit 0, then starting to scale back to find my maintenance dose.

try and raise (fixture) or decrease your light cycle too, lower organics increase light penetration since yellowing compounds are taken out quicker. Do start dosing with bacteria too, I did prodibio for a bit.

The candy cane is looking 100 times better. I moved it to a spot with less flow and now the heads seem to be getting fat again. Maybe it was nothing more than too much flow. I'm gone from my tank until June 13,that makes me nervous, but we shall see what it looks like when I get back.

Hey Steve.. If i remember right i think if there was any probs VDing i think you was to cut back to half the does you are at now and start going back up.. but that could have been just for Cyano.. sorry i wish i could have been more help

I have had a couple strange issues (while dosing booze) but they have been very isolated. My Chip's acro has been having tips die, and now seems teetering on the brink of RTN. All other corals are fine!
