question in filling a claim when I have one already open?

Hello, I have a question in filling a claim when I have one already open. My vehicle was hit on the driver side fender by someone who ran a stop sign about 4 wks ago. I started the claim process through my insurance before Sandy came (but no work has been done). Know Sandy came and my vehicle got flooded. I have not contact the insurance yet of the flood since I just got my power on today but will do so soon. Know would I be able to claim for the driver that hit my vehicle & get a check for that & also do a separate claim for the flood & get another check for that? or will my auto insurance try to get the money for the damage from other insurance & then pay the difference for the flood damage? Not sure how this works or what will work best. I have state farm insurance by the way. any info would be great. Thanks.

I'm not an expert, but I've dealt with a few insurance claims to know a little bit about this. Both are completely separate incidents and as such you should be able to make a claim for both. However, flood insurance may or may not be covered by your car insurance policy. You will need to speak to your agent to see if it's covered.

If your auto policy doesn't cover it, you may have a shot with your homeowner's policy... assuming it was parked in your driveway when the storm hit, and that you have flood insurance.

Good luck. Hope everything works out.

I have collision & comprehensive coverage in my auto policy so I think the comprehensive will cover flood damage to my vehicle.

2 seperate claims. One for the accident and one for the flood. The second claim adjuster will deduct the damaged part of the vehicle from the overall value of the car. Also if you have flood insurance on your home owners policy you may have to go through that if the vehicle was in a garage or drive way.
