Question on Sand and DIY Live Rock

Hey everyone I'm going to start a tank build. I have read some topics about how create your own live rock with concrete. I was wondering (because everyone has their own opinion) but, what is the best stuff to use being reef safe. The other thing is the Lowes by my house is pretty crappy and they do not have the sand everyone was talking about "carribean sand" instead they have Quikcrete Pro Pak Coral Sand. Is the good enough or no?

Thanks everyone
Brad

piercy where you at the swap? Anthony calfo was speaking about the toxins produced while collecting the rock to make cement, and how its destroying the coral reefs.

welcome to NJRC!

There's another thread going around about this but sand is perhaps the cheapest item you'll be getting for a tank. I wouldn't mess with going with playsand or anything like that since they may be treating the sand with non-reef safe chemicals.

I can not go to that either. I'm helping a friend build his house so most of my weekends are booked.

Briefly what did the speaker say?
What are the toxins?
