That really stinks and it makes me more nervous about my upcoming move. I do have a small frag of devils hand and a small greenish blue shroom on frag plugs if you want them at the next meeting.
thanks guys. i want to tank to be stable before anything new gets added, fish included.
i honestly didnt test, i should have. when i saw stuff starting to die i was in fix it mode doing everything to get it right, which didnt work. the tank was a cloudy storm so my best guess is that they had alot of chemical warfare going on, it was so cloudy that if you looked in the end of the tank visability was only about a foot or two. i lost two tangs as well so they either fought it out, suffocated from the lack of oxygen due to the toxins, or there was a spike in something. im willing to bet it was a combination of all of the above. the powder blue had a gash on his face.
i just dont get it though, i didnt transfer over the sand because i knew it released nasties and wanted to rinse it (if i decided to even use it) but i still had an issue. i know for sure that when i was transfering the tank the common green palys (the ones that seems like everyone has) were spitting out toxin, which im sure other things were too, causing the cloudy mess
Jon. You're right about the paly's releasing the strongest toxins I've ever seen. The day after we broke down the 115gal. I had them outside for a few days in the cold then that snowstorm, just sitting on the ground on them big rocks. I picked them up and had burns all over my hands for a week. JohnS had one of the same paly's squirt in his eye last year and he was in pain for days. Them brown and green ones have the worst toxin I've ever seen. I've fraged many other ones bare handed and never had any effect.
After your next water change, stop over, I saved a few nice pieces for your new tank.
AAAAAAHHHHHHH MAN!!! I just read this and I really feel for you. Nothing is ever bullet proof in this hobby. But like the others have said, rebuild and restock. I know.... "easier said than done".
