Currently the gate valve is under the water completely by less then half inch. I've read it shouldn't be fully underwater. Why is this? It seems to be skimming just fine. (brand new tank, brand new skimmer.. been skimming for only a few days)
You will get way better skim if its above water. Also u may still be breaking in. If you are you could overflow your collector quick. I have a sro1000. Internal. I have water pretty high about half way up gate valve but still has good function. Post here updates. FYI I'm gonna be buying an sro 3000 soon....
I have an xs250 on my system, when I first bought it I had the same situation so I called them. The reason you don't want the gate valve under water is because it causes back pressure on the water flowing out of the gate valve.that is what I was told by the people at reefoctopus
You need unrestricted flow out of the gate valve to allow the skimmer to function properly. If its underwater, the outflow rate changes and will drastically reduce the skimmer's function. Def raise it up.
alright, so I got around to making a stand & getting the valve above water.
Anyone know what I can put so the water isnt splashing out? Currently I have a sponge wedged at the bottom of it.. but still splashing some water to the sides.
