Looking for a RS black silicone to re-seal a tank, any idea?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on how you buy it and how thick you apply. If you buy a cartridge (typically a little more then 10 ounces) and don’t lay it down real thick, that one cartridge should be enough. Worst case is that you will need two cartridges. Now ff you buy it in a tube….I have no idea because of the unknown quantity in a tube (maybe 3 to 4 ounces per tube).

Paul what about a non-spray paint for the back glass, outside of glass of course....maybe to apply with a roll?....can not use spray paint because of the temp.

Never used a roller (or brush) to paint the back of a tank....always spray paint. Thursday is supposed to be in th 60's....that's warm enough.

And you don’t have to go crazy-nuts buying the most expensive paint. Here is what I used back in 2008 and it’s holding up just fine…..$0.97/can at HD.

Now do I have to remove all the old silicone or not?.....I want to put black silicone only on the sides, bottom I don't realy care.

If it isn't leaking only the inner seal needs to be removed. If it is leaking you want to remove it all even between the panes. Silicone will not stick well at all the old silicone.

You know when we talked eariler I mentioned that new silicone won't stick to the old. However, if you use the rtv that Paul mentioned that might hold. You may want to check on that. As I understand it it's not silicone but an adhesive so you never know.

I would suggest removing the old because the old won’t look good with the new, and as mentioned, silicone doesn’t stick the greatest to old silicone. I would make sure the glass is squeaky clean of old silicone….use a single edge razor to scrap off all the old stuff.

And John, RTV products are a silicone rubber compound that cures at room temperature….RTV stands for “room temperature vulcanized.” Live long and prosper! :p

Try McMaster and Carr....their catalog shows RTV 103 in both cartridge and tube for $9.48 and $5.77, respectively.

They have a distribution center at 473 Ridge Rd, Dayton, NJ, telephone (609) 259-8900
