I'm pretty new to the hobby and just set up my first reef tank ever it is a 140 gallon. And i'm just wondering if there are any species of sharks i can keep that won't eat my inverts, coral and other fish?
You see people doing it; I think it's usually doomed to failure. For one thing, even a shark that just gets a couple feet long is going to be making way too much waste for a reef tank (you mentioned corals). I think they will eat any other fish if they can, maybea trigger of the same size could coexist, but see waste comments above. A lot of people buy a bamboo shark egg case and hatch it, they don't cost much, but I doubt they can keep the shark for vary long once it starts growing. Cute when little. I guess it scratches the itch.
OK....whale shark is completely reef safe but I don't think he has a 100,000+ gallon tank nor do I think he can produce enough plankton to sustain him on a daily basis.
very funny comment. I think that the possibility of the shark swimming around knocking things over would be a big headache. And as he gets bigger it will most likely develope a taste for your fish. A trigger would most likely pick its eyes out. Sorry.
Sharks are not reef safe, and there was a fish store that had a 265gallon reef tank, and they put a shark in the reef tank and went on vacation for a week, and they came back to a fish only tank...minus a few fish. Needless to say, that store ended up going out of business at the end of last year. So i wouldnt recommend putting a shark in the tank.
