refugium question

We decided to set up the 100 gallon rubbermaid tub for a frag tank. We are going to put the liverock on the bottom with a section for macroalgae then place eggcrate over the top for the corals. My question is: Do you think everything can live together in the same tank, coral and the algae? We will have a separate sump. Thanks for your help

Only problem I see is the egg crate and corals over top the macros. Macro algaes need light and the egg crate and corals will shade them from that. Without light the macros will die off.

I was leaving a section cleared out for the macroalgae it will be under a 400 watt MH

Ok that'll work. Your original post sounded like you were gonna cover the macros, sorry.

400w may be a bit strong for most macros though. If you could position the light so it wasn't directly over the macros it would probable be better.

My Macro likes to float at the top and grow out the bottom, Could you section off a spot that comes right up to the top next to the frags?

I was figuring at 1 end not sure which end maybe under the return so that it is shaded a little from the light. I wasn't sure if everything would coexist in the same tank

I planned on keeping the area clear maybe putting a piece of eggcrate to seperate it from the liverock

Yes, I have every thing in my refugium, My daughter just brought her tank home from school,naturally its summer so everything went back in my tank,refugium,sump,etc.... :-\

Well it is up and running. We just have to add the eggcrate on the top and we are ready for frags. We are going to be using black egg crate Thanks to Mike aka unco macko. Pics coming soon
