returning to reefing

Hi folks! Some of you may remember that I had a 90 gallon reef that I sold off a couple of years ago. I’ve really been missing it, so it looks like I’m starting up again. I’ve been poking around here for the past couple of weeks and it’s good to see some of the old familiar names as well as a bunch of new ones.

I’m going smaller this time - a 60 gallon cube to keep things simple (like that’s really possible). It’s hard to believe, but now I’m buying up stuff that I sold off just a couple of years ago. Oh well.

I don’t have a tank yet, but will most likely get a Marineland cube and Monterey stand. I’ve been on the fence about rimmed vs rimless, though I think the Marineland cube is only rimless now.

The big decision I have is lighting. While it seems like a lot of reefers are moving away from pure-LED lighting, seems like there’s just as many who are perfectly happy with them. I find it all very confusing. I do know that I don’t want to spend anywhere near a grand on lighting & mounting for a 24” tank, so that may help the decision process. I got time to work it out. Maybe I’ll start a build thread once I actually get a tank.

Welcome back and of no one can stay away for too long. Lighting is still constantly debated so you really have your choice and there are so many choices now. What are you looking to do with the cube? Great choice on the cube btw.

Current plan is for it to be mainly LPS. Maybe a couple of SPS, but not many I'd also like to have an anemone eventually. Not planning on a lot of fish, and certainly nothing too big. I like the concept of a simple looking LED fixture attached with a bracket with no rails or anything like that. Maybe I could get away with gen 1 or 2 Radion, or similar.
