Rickyrooz's 120 Gallon Mixed Reef

Very interested in how you do with the biopellets. I have seen them all over the place but have not talked to anyone who actually did it. Have you tried any other ULNS type stuff (zeo, vodka, brightwell, etc)?

No, I've only run GFO.

The colors of the corals have increased dramatically since the addition of the NP Biopellets but the algae is still there and actually has worsened. The skimmate inside the skimmer has darkened and looks almost black. As you can see from this picture of my frag rack the algae has gone nuts. The rocks look clean but where the tangs and snails cannot get to the algae has taken over (aka. the nutrient levels haven't dropped yet with the addition of the Biopellets).

One thing you could look into doing is adding Brightwell's Microbacter7. The biopellets are a carbon source for the bacteria to feed on an MB7 is good bacteria. I run BW Reef Biofuel (carbon source) and the MB7 together and have not seen an increase in algae.

Just found your thread for the first time, and I have to say it is truly a fantastic tank! Your corals and fish are all beautiful. Makes me want to grab a mask and snorkel and dive in!

Are you getting algae growing anywhere else besides on your frag rack?

Now, I'm sort of a newb in this hobby but the first thing I noticed when looking through your pics and vid... you have that big giant window right behind the tank. I know whenever I leave my blinds open a lil bit, I get some algae growing on the side facing the window. Not sure where your frag rack is exactly, but that last pic looks like it's stuck on the side of your DT with magnets... could sunlight from your windows be shining on the side walls of the tank and feeding the algae problem?

Maybe some window shades or blinds might be the easiest solution here?

PS, have you stuck with the MP40 over the Koralia's?

The tank is over 3 years old and has never had an algae problem. I only get algae on the frag racks because the snails and the tangs cannot eat the algae there. The window gets indirect sunlight. I am still using the MP40w.

I've been dosing MB7 as stated earlier. It's only been two weeks, only time will tell.

What are your thoughts now on the Bio pellets that you have been running them for a while?

I'm not impressed. I've been running them for over two months and according to NP's website they should lower PO4 and NO3 within 2-4 weeks.
