Run only actinics to kill algae?

Hi, has anyone tried this? Ive got some really annoying calupera looking algae. Its viney, and usually sneaks new ones out under the sand. I heard 3 days lights out or so will help, but I was thinking about straight blue for a few days. Any ill effects? Thanks

no ill effects but it will only send it into remission during that time.

So best thing to do would be keep them off for a few days?

The point of doing a blackout is to have a total blackout. People who have done it have had positive results. As far as corals go it seems that softies and LPS are fine, your SPS may lose a bit of color but will rebound. Remember in nature it is not sunny every single day.

I tried the running actinics for months, it doesn't help the problem, it only prolongs the whole process of ridding the algae.

Your best bet is to find the problem, and fix that (lord knows, I'm still trying to!) Also, the sun might not shine everyday, but the UV light is still there!

Yea, I know, but I love the colors!!! Figured I could get my kicks with the actinics on. I picked it all clean probably 6 weeks ago at most, starting to see it come back. Ok, 3 days it is! Thanks

No not yet, now we have an impending move date, so I might just clean the rock. Ill use rock from my nanocube for live rock, and the scrubbed rock from the bow as dead when I start my next tank.
