Sad day, tank cracked, had to play god

Cleaned tank last night w/ mag-float, noticed small scratch along front curve of 24 gallon aquapod, woke up this mornign, heard strange noise in basement, tank cracked right down the left front curve. Had roughly 19 gallons of water on the basement carpet, I have a 28 gal and a 2.5 gal but both are basically full so I saved 3-4 pieces of coral, 3 of 4 fish and basically had to lose the rest. I have a bad feeling the 1 fish lost was probably hiding in / on a piece of liverock which I threw in bucket and put outside. A gorgeous bubble tip Anemone who's foot was way to far into a HUGE piece of liverock, I just couldn't detach him & didn't really have space for him in my other tank. Lost an enormous amount of SPS, Xenia, huge Zoa rock, think GSP? (neat purple stuff that opens into green carpet type thing) ton of snails, hermits, 3 huge electric blue hermits (they were bulldozers and going to be traded in this week).

Just hoping the lights / ballast didn't get damaged. What a crappy day. Lesson: if your floors uneven and the water is leaning forward on front of curved glass, shim it up. My 75 gall has been ok uneven for 2.5 years, my 28 for 2 months, but both are along another wall so they're uneven to the sides.

That does suck. Floods happen to all of us. But losing these animals is really sad.
Let me know if I can help in any way. I have a few tanks laying around if you need one.

Sorry to hear about the crack, I had a tank crack on me as well...except it was a 240 gallon! I'm sure you'll get past this and have something bigger and better to enjoy!

Thanks Ed, I have a 20 long laying around that I was going to setup but there was just no time this morning to fix this right. I was out of work Fri / Mon because I'm sick and this made me 30 minutes for work today as is. Just aggravating that I had that tank for weeks (bought from another reefer) and everything in it was starting to really recover, look good, I was getting the feel of the tank and bam, all over the floor.

The only good thing is I was sick all week so I put off buying a skimmer for the tank which I was going to order today. Guess I don't need to do that now :(

Ugh Brian, i live in fear of my 75 Oscar tank cracking, I can't imagine a 225. Any future tanks will be roughly 7.5 gallons or less for me, I just hate flooding my basement. This is the 4th or 5th water cleanup that is fish tank related (coupla washing machine floods when I removed the drain hose from the sink while cleaning my 75 & forgot to put it back, I don't remove it anymore)

Sorry to hear that. Those 24g aquapods and JBJ nanos are notorious for cracking right along the curve. For some reason the 12g's are OK but the 24's have been a problem.

If you don't find your dream tank from any of the other offers, let me know. I have a bunch of empty tanks piled up in my basement too.

Well I'm sort of happy to hear that they're known to crack, I'm now concerned about my 28 bowfront which is a Aqueon I think? (Got from Petsmart). Here's a pict of the crack, giant bristleworm which I should of saved, snail & hermit wasteland, and before shot.
