Saddest day of my reefkeeping existance

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone....I really hated to post anything but I needed it like confession or something. Hope my mistake pushes someone to get a battery backup that saves their fish. I am just mad at myself more then anything I hate making mistakes that cost the guys their lives. :grief:

James,
sorry to hear about your lost... i hated that every time our tank just bounce back onto a good recovery, then s*** happened!!

i also think the real problem was the O2, as 68 degree was not too bad.

in my setup, i have my UPS battery backup side hookup to ONE powerhead and ONE small air pump... the air pump outlet is tided to the powerhead, the air pump is normally off, and only active when power was out, it then active to supply air bubble, then the powerhead would blow them across.

And that is why you are a good reefer.

By sharing your pain, you helped me in my new setup. I will make sure my heaters are on separate circuits. Assuming it was a temp issue and not an oxygen issue,

Also makes me want a controller.

Wishing you and the tank the best.

Sorry for the losses. It happens to the best of us. Like Nikki said just the fact that it's bothering you about the loss of life as opposed to what it's going to cost to replace says a lot.

Sounds like a good setup. So the outlets only come on when the power goes out? How long will the setup run? Thanks for the good idea.

Yes the one sole survivor was smart/lucky enough to go up and just lay there on top of some zoas before the temp ever got back up he was fine after the water started circulating.

1. powerhead always on - hook up to the UPS-battery-power-side
2. air pump actually hook up to a device made by a friend of mine - it is just a simple relay switch inside... normally the relay will pulling the swicth when power failed, the blue switch will fail back/down and connect - hence the ups-power-side will be supply juice to the air pump.

i tried it once for about 6+ hours, and i did not try it much longer... i am sure it would run very long time...

you can easily cacuulate the time depends on what size of equipment you got...
UPS size vs powerhead + air-pump wattage/AMPs...
