SCUBA Dive - Belmar L-Street basin

Is anyone interested in diving the Belmar L-Street Basin? I did it with the club 2 years ago (before I was certified) It was lots of fun, even for those that didn't dive (me).

I was thinking about the week after the August meeting either Saturday or Sunday - high tide those days is around 6:00 PM

A better day would be the day after the meeting August 24 High Tide is around 12:30 PM

I don't know if we can dive at low tide - if we can we can dive the last weekend at 12:00ish

Let me know who is interested (either diving or hanging out on the beach) and when you're interested, too.

We're in! As a matter of fact, our tanks are in the shop being VIP'd and filled as I type this. The 24th sounds like a good day. It's Phyl's B-Day but I'm sure she wouldn't mind spending it under water!

I'm in!! My tanks are all tested and full, hopefully will be emptied and filled a few times before then though.

Sounds like a great trip. I'm certified, but don't have anything other than snorkle and fin.....is there a place near by that rents the regulator, guage and tank?

Where do you live? That would help determine if their is a dive shop close to you.

BTW, you are going to need a mask, fins, wet suit (5 or 7mm in thickness), BC, tank, regulator/gauges, weight belt and weights. Everything but mask and fins can be rented.

Thanks, i'm in old bridge.

I also have a 5mm wetsuit which i totally forgot, hmm...now i gotta look for it...lolz
So i guess everyone just rent or bring all their stuff and meet up there for scuba diving or beach.

i've heard about tropical fish migrating up the gulf stream and being caught there, are any of them catchable with just snorkle gear?

I would imagine you could catch them with snorkel gear.

So far the list of divers looks like:
Eric
Dahlia
Matt
Matthew
John
Phyllis
Mike M

Ground support:

Tropicals are just starting to arrive. I dove Shark River Inlet (Ocean ave) Thursday night but didn't see any. Some of the other divers thee said they had started seeing them earlier that week. Seems like the Gulf Stream is in pretty close right now. Bottom temp was 70 and vis was about 10-12 feet.

we should have a good dive on the 24th. Hopefully by then more tropicals will be showing up.

Awesome! The tanks are back and we're ready to go. I'm looking forward to another great time with the rest of the divers, ground support and future divers!

Grrr! Thanks to Pop Warner and their propensity for giving us NO ADVANCE notice, we just found out last night that there is a game this Sunday at noon. It looks like we're going to have to bail one this one. Sorry everyone. Have a good time and take lots of pics.

You have got to be kidding? What time do you think you could be at Belmar? I have to check the tides again but I thought that high tide was around 2ish.

Ok I just checked the tides. High tide in the inlet is at 1:47 pm so I am guessing about 1/2 hour to reach the back bay so that would put us in the water around 2:15-2:30.

Tides for Belmar, Atlantic Ocean starting with August 24, 2008.
