Shopping for a new skimmer

I'm currently running an SCA-302 on my 90 and very happy with it. It's pretty much a clone of the NAC7, just a tiny bit smaller. From what I've heard, the NAC7 is a very nice skimmer. From my experience, there will always be a skimmer that is supposed to be better, just depends on how much you want or can spend. I was on a tight budget, so I went for best bang for buck.

SWC 120 is a good skimmer for a 75 gallon tank and takes up little room.

I'd hold off on an SWC that comes with an Atman pump. Atman is no longer in business so SWC is in need of identifying a new pump that will require modification to their skimmer. Bubble Magus has already done the switch over from Atman on their NAC6 and NAC9….They call it an “upgrade kit”.” However, if you have an older Bubble Magus, you will need to shell out more cash to purchase this “upgrade” kit, if you are in need of a new pump. If you are buying a Bubble Magus, make sure it is one without an Atman pump (they are calling it an SP2000 pump.) HERE is an example of the upgrade kit for a NAC 6.

I wonder if they will release an upgrade kit for the NAC7. I seriously need a new pump for it.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Bubble Magus skimmers. I had a NAC7 with atman pump for my 75 and it worked great. I now have a NAC6 for my 58 that came with the upgraded pump and i'm happy with that as well. I would suggest that if you order the NAC7, make sure you get the upgraded pump instead of an old version. By the way...the atman has a mesh wheel and the new pump has needle wheel.
Looks like MarineDepot is having a 15% of sale for most of the skimmers. My tank is 75g with a 40g sump.

Considering the following:

Bubble Magus NAC7 - $217
AquaMaxx Cone 2 - $389 (is this too big???)
AquaMaxx Ecomaxx EM- $300 (again is this too big for my setup)

What are your thought? Performance, maintenance, longevity?

Anything else better? Here's the link:

So here's the spec from MarineDepot:

NAC7 Specifications
Tank Capability : 130G-185G
Pump: SP2000
Air intake : 520L/H
Pump power: 16W, 110V 60Hz
Max Chamber Diameter: 9"
Dimensions: 9.4"L x 7.8"W x 20.0"H
Water Level :9.5"-11"

So the SP2000 is the new pump, right?

Good! haha just made me think maybe I can call them up and see if the new sp2000 pump fits the NAC7

That's interesting. I'd give them a call and specifically tell them that you have a NAC7 with an Atman and would the new SP2000 pump fit. So they came out with an upgrade kit for the NAC6 and NAC9, but potentially the NAC7 is a direct fix. Please keep up informed.

I now have three Atmans as backup for my SWC 160. I'd wish they'd make an announcement about that one as well.

Paul, isn't the SWC an atman 2500 also? I though the only difference between the one sold for the BM Nac7 was the impeller.

Also I have seen chatter about an upgrade kit for the SWC 160 also that changes the pump to a sicce. I believe it was in the Reef Filtration threads on R2R.
