I bought a pair of coral cutter and have my coworker hardenning it with titanium nitrate. this hardening will last my coral cutters longer however, i don't know how long would it last yet . if anyone want to do it, let me know. I can hook you up. maybe we can do a group to bring the cost down.

Great idea,we def gotta get you to do more..give us some details,I'd be up for it.I would guess its done by electroplating?Maybe battery cables and....

It can’t be electroplating, in the conventional sense. The hydrogen in water would be reduced way before the titanium would be reduced (plate out.) I’m pretty sure what you are looking at is vapor deposition of titanium nitride….it gives metals that nice gold finish. I’m also not convinced it would do much for our application to bone cutters, other than making it look pretty. The micro thin coating may slightly add to the wear on the edge, but lets get real…..how many of use are cutting thousands of frags?

i don't know what is the process but we use the same process in hardening some stuff at work for black application.
Paul is right, in term of cutting a lot of frag, i don't know it would last or benefit but in term of rust in saltwater, I think i can count on the hardening.
i did not pay for the hardening however the cost is cheap for something like this small. my coworker did not tell me how much. quote "don't worry about it. you built a lot of stuff for me so this is my small gift"

i have it in vinegar right now and will see how it work in a day or two

I fully agree with the rusting thing. Titanium will not “rust.” The bone cutters I have must be a low grade stainless, because I have rust spots on them, and this would make them not rust….and on top of it, look pretty.
