Today we picked up a cleaner shrimp and during the drip acclimation process. My middle daughter noticed a bump in his Carpus. Fearing an illness I did not want to put it in the tank. After and extensive search. We determined it was a parasitic isopod. Further search and we learned how to remove it. In short we put it in a shallow bowl of tank water. Flipped it over and with lights and magnifying lenses carefully used very pointy tweezers to lift his carpus and remove the offender. During the process the isopod released an amazing amount of eggs as we were told it would do. The coolest part was as soon as the pod was removed the extremely compliant shrimp flipped over and started cleaning me. I am happy to report he is in the main tank and doing very well. We have a fantastic video of our procedure but unfortunately it is to large to post. But if anyone wants to see it when we are together just ask.
