Skimmer air intake

So I keep both inlets open to let more air in... or at least I assume that's how it works... I have been trying to get a better wet skim. My water/bubble transition is currently at bottom of collection cup. If I can close one of the inlets, other that my skimmer being quieter, would I have more control on skimming. My cup was cleaned a week ago. I have a reef octopus classic 160 int.

I'm not sure why they cover one but I don't think it's going to help airflow much by opening it. The only adjustment you'll have is the valve to adjust the level, other than that not much else you can do.

I thought it might force some more air in maybe making more smaller bubbles other than bigger ones. But the tube to the pump is only one size so I guess not. I do all the adjustment by the gate valve.

You can move the water line fairly close to the top of the skimmer cup but be careful of overflow, other than that it will produce what it's going to produce. What I did notice with my reef Octo was when I had zero nitrates it didn't pull a lot out, I did wind up dosing them for a bit and with the carbon dosing it started pulling out more gunk

I have plenty of nitrates and have been carbon dosing. It definitely has been pulling out the good stuff just seeing if I can maximize production

The only way I know to get small bubbles is a needle wheel impeller if your pump doesn't have one. You can also mod the impeller which will create smaller bubbles.
