Skimmer crash

So after 3 years my first problem bad way to start a Friday got up this morning and did my tank checks and found that my skimmer was not working pulled the motor out and plug it in for a second nothing pulled the top off and this is what I saw

This is to a bubble Magnus skimmer now the piece on the towel of the wheel I took out it was stuck in the other part of the wheel when I plugged it back in just to see if it moved I got nothing I heard a low hum but no movement so I guess it's shot
So my question is do you think it is shot should it of moved where can I get another motor or another wheel
And how long before I should start to worry that I don't have a skimmer running it was working last night around 11:00 so I don't know how long it's been down worst case since 11:01
Thanks for help guys

Dan I know guys that do not run a skimmer and there tanks look great, you should be alright for a week or two and keep up with water changes till you get another.

I think madreefer just had to replace his atman pump also. Check with him. I think they are a pretty available pump. Especially with the pinwheel that BM uses. Here's one place.

You could also try local but not sure how you would make out there. If I had to pick one it would be TB Aquatics.

Until then I agree with above. Just increase WC's until you replace it. Maybe just do a small one each day.

Socal in the above post is the place to get replacement Atmans. If you’re in immediate need, I have a brand new one, in the box, that you can have. Just have the new one you are ordering shipped to my house. Let me know.

Dan,
I ordered from Sea Side Aquatics and shipping was quick. I went a week with no skimmer with no issues. I kept the needle wheel from my broken pump.
If you want to borrow it and see if your pump still works let me know. Or do what Paul suggested.

Dan:
+2 on socal for anything atman. also I have my NAC6A offline - as a back up. I forget which pump it has - if it's the "2500" but you're welcome to borrow it for as long as you need - hell if the pumps too small for your skimmer (I think you have a NAC7) just borrow the whole skimmer and run it until you get yours fixed - not to distract from his generosity but I'm a lot closer than paul so while I can’t offer a new pump/swap I can offer a much shorter drive :). also, I still have the old pump (I replaced mine) and to be honest I was VERY new and had no idea that the impeller could be good or bad - point is the old pump may have a salvageable impeller - you're welcome to that too. I'm not sure why I kept it (I'm not 100% sure I still have it actually ) either way I have something that can hold you over until you get up and running again....

It's threads like this that show that this Club is steps above the rest of them the fact that people are so cool and willing to help and lend equipment.. It's awesome!!!

Ive had my skimmer pump burn out and ran the tank for a little over a week with no issues too..

Dan How often do you clean that pump it is very dirty inside of it. I try to clean my pump once a month.

I never did for three years but I did learn my lesson that will be part of my monthly maintenance I know it's dirty but is that why the pin wheel broke Or are you saying that because it could be making my water dirty? Nitrates phosphates ex ex

+1 grey bolt. This site has mademy second attempt at reefing a lot more easier. Than the first time I tried going solo.

It is a very good reason why the pinwheel broke. Also a dirty pump is less efficient than a clean one. It is like have good clean arteries to your heart and you hart is the pump all works great. But a dirty pump is like having dirty arteries and you heart fails like your pump fails.

Since the pump is down should I pull the whole thing and clean the whole thing with water and vinegar

Thanks for the heads up it just something that was out of mind in the sump area and ran so well for three years with no problem

I take mine apart about once a month for cleaning. About every three month's I'll place it in a 5 gal. bucket with water and vinegar (3:1) and let it run for an hour or so.
