Skimmer for 24G Aquapod

Our store is in Avenel...so we're just a little out of the way....sorry we dont do shipping yet...

the fission skimmerdo is suppose to support a 30 gallon but i think that is bs...its not supporting my 20...having trouble adjusting it right,...not liking it so i think i threw the money away on this but i have a 10 gal nano i am goin to set up for a mini reef for my daughters room..so i am goin to try it in that one....im goin to get a tunze they are the better brand in my opinion....so carlo i suggest u just get a better skimmer

Maybe I'll see if I can borrow one to test with instead of wasting my money too. I already know it won't stay. I just wanted to see what it could do given enough adjustment and time (if possible).

I don't mind trying both the Tunze and the Saphire since I've got both the 24g Nano and 44g pentagon (with Sea Clone presently) which would allow me to keep both after the fact.

Any update on your skimmer?

Does anyone use the tunze nano skimmer on this tank?

I do ;D It fit's really nicely in the first section, I clean it out every Monday to give you an idea of it's skimming production. I've been very happy with it.

Sinking beach:

Thanks for the pics. Looks nice. Is that one week's skimmate production?

Also how noisy is this skimmer? I know all skimmers are noisy but some more than others.

Don't buy the fission whatever you do!!! If you must PM me and I will give you mine they are a piece of crap. I am not that long into the reef part just had fish before but trying like crazy to get everything straight. The fissison is a waste of time and 25 bucks.

This week I'm going to get the skimmer from Aquatic Obessions located on Avenal. I know he has it! I've been to the store...great stuff. I'm not getting the Current Fisson. I'm going to buy the Sapphire Aquatics skimmer.

Hey Carlos...decided not to buy the Sapphire Aquatics skimmer! I'm getting more negative feedbacks on that skimmer. This Sapphire Aquatics skimmer you have to change the collection cup almost everyday. Thats sound like too much work!

I hear more are happy with the Tunze 9002 or the Aqua C remora w/ NJ1200

Wolverine,

I'm guessing you have the HQI or PC's in the hood on yours. Are you able to remove the collection cup and use an external cup to get the lid closed? It didn't look like there was alot of room.

I'm hunting down an Aquapod and I saw one at the LFS today but they have the HQI with the legs so there is no cover on it.

I've got little kids and want to get a 9002 skimmer when I set mine up to keep em from chucking things into it. I can see it now... Those are zoanthids, and next to it are some star polyups, and next to that is Lightning McQueen :(

I'd recommend skipping the skimmer and keeping up on water changes. ;)

Skimmers are such a pain, and the smaller they are, the more useless they seem to be, IMO.
I'm trying to convince my brother to buy a 12g aqua pod since they dont want regular tank. How often does one need to make water changes in these pods if you dont use a skimmer?

I change mine every week from 10-25 percent. I have modified my back chamber .... most do the sponges and bio balls are not really great. Closed all but the top for surface skimming ...added live rock in the bottom, with an eggcrate platform for filter floss and some macro algea behind it. Used an LED lightbar that is opposite time cycle. OH and I hang a bag of phosguard too in the other chamber.

Got ya. Yea a lot of people don't like it because it skims so well.

How's the Tunze working for you?

Carlo
Hey Carlo, The Tunze DOC 9002 Skimmer is working fantastic. Honestly, I clean the waste cup every 4 days and its brown. The skimmer is inside the last chamber...perfect. However, I had my Aquapod drilled for return, and had a custom built sump, where the tunze 9002 will reside in the sump. Will post pictures soon.
