hello, i have been running an aqua c remora with mj1200 on my tank for about a month. In the past week the skimmer has been putting out so much water waste that my salinity has dropped significantly. I turned off the skimmer and will go skimmer less until i can get my salinity back up slowly. What could be the problem with the skimmer?

When you say "so much" how many gallons per week is your ato adding to the tank? And how many gallons does your system hold?
It's most likely just in need of an adjustment so there's more foam / less water being skimmed.

Are you using any type of water conditioners or any type of stress coats, etc. ? i.e Amquel, etc. or maybe Coral Sea Complete Salt mix?

That is what i was thinking. Nate, any new additives that have been introduced. Red slime remover, liquid foods, etc??
3 gallons a week is a bit high for a 25g, but not incredibly high that it should cause a major salinity drop. Keep in mind that some of that 3 gallons is replacing evap too.
I'd suggest double checking the new salt water before you do your next water change. You might want to make it a bit "stronger" (say 1.027) to help get your tank back to normal range.
If the skimmer still keeps running wet and you have a salinity drop over the next week... then I'd look into finding a way to adjust the skimmer. Maybe step it down to an mj900 and see if that helps.
If none of that works, you could also do a 50/50 mix of saltwater and ro/di water in your topoff container. This would slowly increase the salinity to keep up with the extra the skimmer is taking out. A temporary fix, but would keep your parameters balanced until you come up with a permanent solution.

I agree with George regarding top off. I always mix a little salt water in my top off for this reason. I go through about 6g a week in top off for my 75g with a 30g sump.
Edit: Have you checked that is clogging the skimmer, especially the injector nozzle.

Yea, adding a valve between the pump and the skimmer would give you more tuning ability for sure.
If you do this Nate, and it's the same kind of valve (or if you think there might be some "lubrication" in the valve you get)... I'd suggest rinsing the valve in vinegar and giving a good rinse before installing. You don't want any oils making their way into your tank.

i used an aqua C and they are very sensitive. I never had the remora but the principles behind the spray injection should hold the same. PE Mysis is very oily and if not pre-washed then I'm sure it would have an effect on the skimmer. Though i'm baffled as to why it's skimming so wet...most of the time when i put my bare hand in the tank and such - the skimmer foam would disappear.

+1 on the skimmer stopping when you put your hands in the tank. I don't have a skimmer like that but I have a downdraft and the same thing happens as far as the skimmate dropping. The skimmer should also stop skimming for a while after adding oily foods like mysis. After a while it should pick back up again.
