Hey all,

I have a reef octo 1000 in sump. Its been running great since the start. Yesterday I spent some time with the tank. I had a rusty looking mold/slime over everything in the sump, oddly enough it wasn't present in the main tank. Did a major clean (it cleaned up very easily) and got it under control. Then I did some aquascaping.

Since then my skimmer has gone insane. Regardless of water level or amount I have it open/closed, there is a continuous heavy flow of water/bubbles into the collection cup. I've routed a drain line from the cup back into the sump and its running like a faucet.

The only thing I can think of is that I used some Fluval Sea epoxy putty to secure a few rocks.

I'm unsure if the unit is malfunctioning or if its a reaction from the epoxy in the water.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Epoxy will so it every time. That coupled with whatever the algae may have released and is say that's the issue. A good water change, maybe a bit of carbon and a little time and it should be rolling along nicely again

Epoxy will typically overflow the skimmer, you can keep it off for a while or just let pull the drain plug from the collection cup till it stops. Nothing really harmful.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Figured it was probably the epoxy and glad to have it confirmed.
Bag of carbon going into sump as soon as I finish this message.
It's nice to have a 'WTF now?' moment that doesn't require towels and/or credit card.

Run the carbon Mark till you get your skimmed under control but I wouldn't keep running it continually
