I have issues with my Coralife Super Skimmer, tons of micro bubbles. I picked up a 530gph needle wheel pump for it. Do I need more sponges in the basket? I am using at as a HOB. Any help appreciated; I am unable to upload the video. Yes, I know get a better skimmer but not an option now.
The skimmer is old but the pump is brand new. I just set it up yesterday and know it takes time to brake in but the bubbles are ridiculous. I lost the sponge for the basket and used a skinnier one. I plan to go pickup a thicker one tonight and let it run and see what happens. Anything else it could be besides time and the sponge?
Most will go away as the skimmer and pump slimes up, give it a week or so. Additives such as water conditioners or new salt water can cause a similar condition. Some carbon might help some.
Just an FYI. I picked up a Coralife 100(is) a few months ago for a 40b as I found it on sale at a big shop and I got a great deal at $100. Had a massive amount of microbubbles. Gave it about a week and a half and it calmed down a bit.
But, the pump/wheel kicked out after 6-8 weeks. Coralife replaced the entire pump unit. Worked again for about 8-12 weeks and pump/wheel died again.
Picked up a Reef Octo 110 for $150 and running great over last 6 months.
