Skyrocketing prices?

So I went to several fish stores today and i noticed a few had priced marked up like crazy. Yellow tangs going from $110-$150, tomini kole and blue tangs from $70-$100, midas blenny $60-$80, yellow coris $50-$80 along with other way overpriced fish.

Does anyone know what's going on with these insane prices? Even clownfish prices seem to be going up slightly.

They are closing Hawaii again so that’s why the yellow tangs are expensive.

I dont think its just fish. My wife and I noticed it tonight.
Earlier in the year we priced out and wrote down a few gifts for the kids.
A Disney Princess Wreck it Ralph set - $129, today the cheapest we saw it was $199.
A Lego jungle set - $59, cheapest today was $99.
We did manage to get the $89 Lego Razorcrest for $129, as it was my son's big want.
And it was the same with everything else that has any popularity.
Everyone seems to be jacking prices to compensate for covid.
And with shipping limitations and short supplies, there are a lot of private seller raising prices through the roof, hundreds above retail.

Places shutting down and then shipping basically grinding to a halt led to prices going way up. My wife and I laugh at some of the prices on live aquaria but that is the new reality.

It's absolutely insane. It sucks because I understand that on their side, they need to make more because of the hit these companies took because of COVID, but at the same time, a lot of people also took a hit on their job so they're also short on money. So you want to support these businesses but at the same time, it's become increasingly more difficult to do so

Not all vendors are insane with the pricing... I bought a bunch of fish from Salgado today and they had almost all the fish that you listed for significantly cheaper. Yellow tangs for $50, tomini tang for $35, blue eyed kole for $35, blue hippos for $40, yellow coris for $30. I bought leopard wrasses at $25, borbonius anthia for $185, and a M/F pair of square anthias for $50.

Recently they had purple tangs for $75, powder brown tangs for $35, and gem tangs at $250. It's worth the drive up there, but if you can't make it, they'll also do same day delivery down to northern NJ for a small fee.

I live in Brick so it's a far drive for me. I've bought fish from them before though

I've seen some people have some good luck with them. I've only purchased 4 fish from them. 2 of them didn't even make it home. 1 didn't last the night and 1 is still alive today. They didn't look good when I picked them up. Wasn't able to check since it was the beginning of COVID and it was curbside pick up so I wasn't able to see them in tank in store.

They did recently upgrade their store so maybe I'll give them another shot at some point.
