Slow tissue resession

What are some things to check on LPS (scolys, acans) that slowly recede and show skeleton. Very slow. They are currently on the bottom of my 120 (4 ft version). Lighting is 2 x 175w MH/VHO just above the top of the tank.

I had issue with my scoly when it was on the sand. I moved it about half way up on a flat rock and its been doing great since.

Realize I say this with ignorance because I don’t use MH’s. Are two 175’s enough light for a four foot 120....isn’t that like 24 inches deep?

Especially having them in the sand at the bottom.

Id say definite a 4 foot 120 is 18 inches deep and lps would be happy down there- i know with my 18 inch deep tank i bleach any lps that are middle of the tank. The Scolys is what i dont like they can work out great for some people then just recced from the base on others- when ever you see them forsale they have had past tissue recession or are going threw it when you see them for sale- I stay away from scolys because its hit or miss unless your extremely experienced with them. Also make sure that they are getting little to no flow- if the tissue is moving to much they will want to get out out there.

Check water chemistry and make sure you aren't blasting it with flow. Good Luck

Calc is ~450, Alk 6 dkh... I do have lotsa flow...2 mp40s in a 4 foot 120.

Your alk is on the low side you should be around an 8-11 dkh also check your mag level as you would want to be somewhere around 1300

When in doubt water change the system as much as possible using clean RO/DI water with no TDS and use a quality salt that has no nitrates. Make sure u age the new salt water at least a day. Good Luck Also don't blast the LPS with flow
