I was planning on doing John's big tank, I just got home from Ohio from 2 weeks of training for my job. F M L SO ANGRY Tang police

MY WHOLE TANK IS COVERED WITH HAIR ALGAE AND CYANO, SOME OF MY NICEST ACANS GONE

IDK how it happened I top off with RO water, my mom was feeding every other day and I'm running leds so not old bulbs.

I plan on going to AF (yeah I don't want to) tomorrow and getting some hermits and snails to help trim some of it back and then aggressive water changes and going to add phosban and new chemipure.

Cannot believe how crazy nasty the tank looks in only 2 weeks! Before I left I did 10g water change and everything looked perfect.

Calm down young man. Take a deep breath and let it out slowwwwwwwwwly.

You have a relatively new tank. If you didn’t get hair algae and cyano, I’d be shocked. It’s expected in new tanks….less than a year old. Forget all the fancy-pants knee-jerk crap you want to do or buy. Hermits and snails won’t be able to keep up. Sit back and relax and start making water to do water changes. In your leisure you can go and find reasonably priced stores to buy a clean-up crew.

That almost always happens to new tanks.

It happened to my tanks after over 8 years of reefing. I think I finally got it under control with AO's help. Use Rowaphos to bring down the phosphates. lots of water changes.

Take a plastic fork and rubberband it to 1/2 or so tub and suck that crap right out. Fork is for the sand works like a charm. (Thanks Tony Vargas for the great tip in his new book.)

Hang in there. My 20g is in the hair algae stage right now. This too will pass.

take out the blow torch and burn them just like me burn the bubble algae. oh well, after 2 months of little water change, the bubble algae and hair algae get out of my hand in my DT now. oh well, I just need to relax and enjoy my kids. fix the tank whenever i have time Dad life dead life no more than a sad life
