sock holder

Sweet set up i like the pics too... Does this work good for a bubble trap though? Are you using the well pipe as the bubble trap or the solid will do the same?. I would think the bubbles would go right out the 1" holes and to your pump. Do you have baffles in your sump as well?

In general, I'd say yes, it'll work as a bubble tower in most set ups. To a point, bigger holes reduce the velocity of the water moving out of the 4" pipe. Gives the bubbles a chance to rise. But. it depends upon your specific system. If you are pushing a ton of flow & have a relatively small sump, you might have to mod it further. For example, if you're using the toilet ring, a 3" PVC pipe will slip right into the inside ring. Stick a piece of 3" in there so it extends above the holes, and have a drop tube from your drain in to that 3". Now you've effectively added a baffle to the tower.

I am a big fan of drop tubes with vents. Let your drain water breath in the drop tube and not splash into the sump or sock.

I don't think well screen materials vs solid pipe makes a big difference in this application. It's just what I picked up off the shelf.

And yes, I have a baffled sump.

I just checked my Photobucket and I don't have a pic so I'll have to take one today and upload it later.

Basically I prefer the DWV (Drain Waist Vent) YTs because they are a smaller overall size. Lowes & HD carry them Your drain comes into the T with the Y sweep going down to the drop tube into your sump. The sweep calms flow and that's good for bubble and noise. At the top of the straight run a short riser peice may be added and although this does absolutely nothing to contain water, it acts as a silencer, if you're looking for very quite, make it as tall as possible with a T on top.

If you aren't feeding this into a sock I always add a T on the bottom too to soften the discharging flow. The goal is to reduce discharging turbulence at all possible points in your drain, while giving bubbles a chance to rise and pop.

... Make sence? I'll post pics later.

For drians if you like the sexy black ABS Lowes most allways stocks it, starting at 1 1/4" fittings, and I think it is fine for gravity drain runs .... and cheap! ;)

Here's the drain ... or a mock up of one. The lateral pipe is the drain line from whatever tank. The dark grey lower pipe goes into the sump. The light grey upper pipe is the vent. The T on top is the silencer.

Technically, the one on the right is a YT. The one on the left is a sweepYT. You save fitting to get horizontal with the sweep. That said if you're running flex either will do.
