South 'west' Jersey needs more LFS

I second this, they already have the best salt prices around which means I need to go there once a month anyway, and I've gotten most of my fresh and saltwater fish from them already, all we need now is a Good coral selection :)

Yup best salt price on rc I have found and they have some knowledgeable staff. Make it happen George lol

Maybe he will change his mind, but Dominick has been approached many times with the idea of sponsorship, meetings, etc., both from our club, and DVRC. My understanding is, that he feels that clubs like ours are in competition for his business, and feels it would be counterproductive to support any club.

Thats a shame. Sponsorship would give more reason to buy from them vs. Online or other stores

AO has the best selection of unique or harder to find fish that I have seen in my experience. They also have the smaller and more name brand frags of zoas palys and sps, with prices on the hobbyist side of frags.

OGII has a very nice selection of sps and acan frags and great sales multiple times a year that drive me back there an hour and a half each way. They also have a very good fish selection, I just haven't gotten any from them as I'm usually too late in a sale by the time I get there lol.

Fengs from what I have seen and heard (have not had a chance to get there, was closed both times I went by) has beautiful and well priced sps frags and colonies with some of the best colors around, I do not see a lot of "tyree LE" and ORA stuff but a lot of wild colonies without names, but with awesome coloring and growth patterns.

AC has a large fish selection but to me it seems like a ton of the same stuff. I haven't seen many unique inverts and especially not anemones, and their corals are mostly colonies priced at 80+ for a half decent looking one. Most hobbiests prefer to buy 5 frags at 15 each and get a diversity rather than 1 at 80 and be done with it.

By far the best store for frags and unique corals as well as name brand stuff and awesome anemones is what used to be frazer zoo out in PA. I have spent thousands there in corals and anemones. Spideybry can help me out with their new name.

To start, AC needs frags. Nice, Quality frags.

*Disclaimer* this is just my opinion and I haven't been to any north or central stores in about a year, so I can't say what they are like recently.

To get this more on topic, what if we hosted a meeting with aquarium center george? That way we can offer friendly advice and maybe workout a sponsorship. That would give sj a nice lfs if they could improve a bit

I actually brought that up as an idea with Val. I told them how successful our meeting at Elos was up north and also how busy the store was that day. She seemed like that might be a good idea too. Hosting the meeting would mean they would have to be a sponsor of the club though.

However, as Jim mentioned, Dom does has his reservations about sponsoring any club, with fear that it might show favoritism towards one club... or perhaps he may then feel obligated to sponsor all of them, which he may not be willing to do financially.

It's certainly a possibility at some point though if the relationship grows and we show that we do have quite a few members who shop there to make it worth it for them. So, if/when you do stop in there, at least mention that you are a NJRC member to get the word out that we are/want to be loyal patrons at our only decent LFS down here. ;)

George,

I might be mistaken but I think we are the only club in their area. Im not sure that by sponsoring us he would be showing favoritism over any other organization. Maybe you could make a case for DVRC but I think most of the SJ members there are also members here like myself. Most of that clubs members are west of philly and probably would never step foot in the store.

I think AC is a decent store overall. I do wish they brought in more unique fish but I understand that the market for them isnt their bread and butter.

I still scartch my head wondering why central and northern NJ can support so many good stores while SJ and really the Philadelphia area as a whole can't.

Mike, I wouldn't say they can't... it's just that nobody else seems to want to try around here. I know East Coast Aquatics (ECA) was doing very well over in Prospect Park, PA until they had the fire that put them out of business. For a while, they had a great selection of corals and fish (even some unique types) with a smaller than AC but decent amount of dry goods. The staff there was really great too. It's a shame that happened to them.

I think the market down here will support a store that specializes in reefs/corals if they come.
