Steve's back...10 Gallon Nano!

I'm back! For those of you that know...I have been without a tank for over 2 years now. I had 2 tanks spring leaks, then all my fish died while setting up the 3rd tank. Since I don't live where my tank is any longer I decided not to set it up, but I have been going through withdrawals.

Well today was my birthday and my wife of 2 1/2 months bought me the brand new Innovative Marine Nuvo Fusion 10 Gallon!

It's not a huge tank, but that will come as we are currently house hunting! But I just can't wait to get the tank and get back into the swing of things!!

I'm thinking about a stock list. Not sure I want to do any coral as that would mean dosing and everything else. Having such a small tank is VERY new to me! Before now the smallest I ever had was a 55 and that didn't last long and upgraded to the 180. 10 Gallons is going to be a whole new world!!

For fish I'm looking at the following:

Neon Blue Goby
Clown Goby
Tail Spot Blenny
Orange Spotted Goby with Pistol Shrimp
Blonde Naso
Purple Firefish
1-2 Clowns
Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse
White Banded Possum Wrasse

Open to any and all suggestions!

Happy Birthday and congrats on finally getting back in. Go zoas and other softies. We have a clown goby in our nano and while cute beware that while little at least pellets are too big and Mysis are almost too big.

I got the tank on Friday! I was a bit concerned as the box was a bit crushed on one edge.

Once I opened the box and got through the 12,000,000 packing peanuts I came to the second box.

Opened that one and the tank was in great shape! I have to say Innovative Marine makes a really nice tank!

I quickly set it up in 5 minutes since no plumbing involved....and filled it with water to run a leak test. Let it run for 24 hours...no leaks!

Then on Saturday I put in eggcrate at the bottom, followed by base rock that I have had sitting around for years. Then I added the sand which has also been sitting around for years.

Today I stopped by Brandon's house to steal 10 Gallons of RO water since my new filters and DI resin aren't here yet. The tank is all set! I have a heater in there for now that is way too big until my box comes in with all my test kits and new heater.

So excited!!

How many fish do you think I can squeeze in here?

I would only put *Micro Fish." These fish are hard to see in larger tanks.

For Fish
Catalina Goby
Randalls
Twin Spot
1 Premium Clown Maybe
Cleaner Shrimp
Also Red Scooter Blenny
Mandarin if you can get it to start eating frozen.

For Corals -

I would do something I always wanted to do in a tank that size. Basically plant some filter feeding corals that don't like TOO MUCH FLOW.

Carnation Corals
Maybe some Orange or Blue Sponge
Crazy Zoa Garden
Mushrooms and Acanas and Ricordea's.

No tank's complete without a Valimingi tang. *runs away*

So I decided to go with the shrimp cycling method instead of Biospira. The shrimp was in for just under a week. I watched daily as the Ammonia went up and up. For the past 2 days though it wasn't going any higher, so I tested the Nitrites and sure even, they were high too!! I removed the shrimp tonight...thank god...the wife was about to kill me because of the smell!! Now I will watch the Ammonia come down, followed by the nitrite. I do like how everything seems to happen faster in such a small tank!! :D

Question for everyone....it has been quite a while since I have had to cycle a tank...do I need to start ghost feeding the tank? Or do I wait until the levels fall to 0?

Wait till both Ammonia and Nitrite are zero, then do a water change as your nitrate will be high, then add fish or ghost feed. I just did a fish and shrimp less cycle with Dr. Tims. His directions are to do one more test to make sure ammonia/nitrite can be process within 24 hours, but I guess if you got rid of the stinky shrimp that would be difficult w/o pure ammonia.
